The M Family – Avalon, NJ

The M family were so lucky to enjoy two weeks in Avalon, NJ. Although home is in Pennsylvania, they certainly enjoyed their vacation as much as a family can.  Night swims, boat rides, late nights giggling and not going to bed…just to name a few.

This family was styled to perfection and were just a stunning family all around.

I love meeting new families especially when they are vacationing at the Jersey Shore. It is such a beautiful area to photograph family sessions.  There are so many gorgeous spots along the coast of Southern New Jersey. The light, the sunsets, the dunes, the surf…

The W Family – Stone Harbor

Going on a vacation with extended family is hard. Especially when everyone lives on far ends of the map. But accomplishing that task is one worth documenting especially in the lovely town of Stone Harbor. I met the Workman families as they traveled from all over …. Pennsylvania to Montana … to converge onto their favorite shore town of Stone Harbor, NJ. Having grown up coming to their shore home in Stone Harbor for the summers always brings fond memories and so it is naturally obvious to all vacation back at their home away from home.

I love big families and all the crazy fun that goes with them. Trying to capture all the posed shots are best to get out of the way. They are important and will be on walls for years but the fun shots are always after those. The ones that let the kids run around, jump up and down and climb up lifeguard stands to jump off!

I love capturing all of it!! I love all the families that allow me in to capture their family’s love, silliness, and joy!

This warm breezy night in Sea Isle City, NJ I had the pleasure to capture the P family.  The large family was vacationing from Pennsylvania and enjoying the vacation in the little gem of Sea Isle. The grandkids were having the best time with each other. The kiddies all had some sun on their face which is a vacation staple. They were some of the best kids I had in terms of getting true smiles, and allowed me to get such great fun shots.  I love getting fun pictures of the parents, and the look on the kids’ faces are all priceless.

One of my favorite times is when I ask the kids to get silly and jump up!  It brings renewed energy into the session and always makes for good pictures. My favorite pictures are probably not always my client’s favorites but I love silly and touching moments. I really enjoyed my time with this family and hope they love their session as much as I did!

I think it is such a great time to do family photos. Often, it is an extended family photo session.  Brothers, sisters, parents, cousins, and grandparents all on vacation enjoying family time that doesn’t happen that often. Many branches of the family tree that may be spread out, all join together for a week or so and create so many cherished memories. I feel so honored to be able to capture that great big group shot that will be hanging in all the homes for years as well as all the individual family pictures and groupings. Grandparents with grandkids, all the cousins, lifeguard stand and boat pictures, just to name a few.

The M family came from all over the Northeast to spend a week in Avalon, NJ. The grandparents with their five kids and all their families joined me on the beach for a sunset session.  There was so much fun and humor with everyone, especially with the grandparents.  I was able to capture so many fun moments such as chasing kids, mom kisses, big and little cousin time, and even a gymnast backhandspring!

I often don’t get many takers to meet me all dressed on the beach at sunrise to get pictures taken on their vacation.  I get it! Sleep is so premium anyways and getting up early is hard to do when all you want to do is sleep. Believe me, this girl loves her sleep. I don’t see tons of sunrises. But this session makes me want to change that…

When Brooke called me to say that she wanted me to capture their family photo session while they are visiting Avalon, NJ from Wisconsin, I was booked every night. The week of July Fourth is always a busy one with lots of vacationers.  The only thing I had to offer was a sunrise session. For a group of 15 with lots of littles! When she said they would take it, I was shocked. I can’t imagine getting all those people ready and out the door for a sunrise session. But they were there, all ready to go.

The morning was beautiful.  The sky was crisp, and the kids were tired enough to not want to roll around in the sand, but awake enough to smile.  Capturing the whole family is a fun challenge. The three boys, their families, and their parents all live in Wisconsin. They were visiting Avalon where they have family and enjoyed the beaches of New Jersey for the first time as a family.  Their kids had a ball spending the week in the ocean, building sandcastles, and riding the waves.  I feel it was such an honor to capture this family.  They are special to me now and I will think of them always.
