The G Family | Mint and Coral Seashore Session

the G family – Avalon, NJ

This was a very special session to me. To capture a family’s connection and to be able to capture a true appreciation of each other in their lives was such a wonderful theme in this session. This family was such fun. Their mom was celebrating a special milestone with her three children and her first granddaughter. The mint and coral color scheme is one of my favorites. It lends itself so wonderfully with the beach scene. At the Avalon light was divine and allowed such gorgeous photos for some wonderfully engaging photos of a wonderful family.

Do you remember when I did Leeland’s newborn photo session just a short year ago? Well a year really can fly by and sweet Leeland is celebrating his first birthday. We decided to catch some beach scenery as well as using the little box that sweet newborn Leeland fit so neatly on. And some cake to smash is always a good way to end a first birthday session.

Balloons are a tricky prop to have outside due to the wind especially at the shorebut they sure do make for great photo shoot props. And we had them for such a short time. The wind this day was so strong that it carried the balloons away with a weighted clip and all. It was priceless. As always, we just went with it.

Leeland loved his one year old cake. He was being shy about it at first, just dipping his finger in the cake and licking it. But soon that turned to the fist and shoveling it in his mouth, leaving cake chunks on the feet.

Honestly, it was so great to be able to capture his first images as a newborn and then his first birthday pictures. Cake smashes are so much fun! I truly treasure being able to capture such events in a child’s life.

They had heard about me in the spring when I was featured on The Best of OC and wanted to book me for their engagement session. They will be getting married in Key West in the fall, but wanted to get some beach photos in Ocean City, NJ where the bride grew up vacationing. We met up in the south end of Ocean City, which was a nice change for me. I do most of my sessions in the north end but it was fun to try a different street this time. The weather was perfect and the sun was giving us such great light.

Allison is a stunning bride to be, and she and Jordan were so natural together in all their posing, that it made my job very easy! Jordan had such a great skill of getting Allison to laugh, and she has such a great laugh. Their connection was palpable. I hope I was able to fully convey that in my images. I wish these two so much love and joy, but they seem like they are brimming with it.

Sessions in the summer are wonderful for silhouettes and it is one of my most favorite things to capture. What is your favorite thing about summer beach pictures?

Mom Session

I am a mom to four boys so I love to photograph a mom and her kids, especially down at the Jersey Shore. ! I think every mom can relate to the love a mother feels for her child. It’s a love beyond measure.

The C Family was so much fun to capture. Kathleen is a mom to two boys who are growing every day. One in high school and one in college, it was a privilege to see into a window of their life. I know that day will be upon me sooner than I like to think about, but seeing these boys and how much they love their mom, gives me hope that I will be ok.

Being a mom to older boys is kinda like walking a tight rope. They don’t want affection in terms of hugs, tickles, and being rocked in your arms, but rather, attention for their jokes, or watching their favorite hockey team on tv with them. You have no guide telling you that you are doing a good job, or how far you have left until you are done, and it’s scary because you don’t know if every decision you make will make you fall down into horrible pain. When to be strict, when to be lenient, when to give space and when to really insist on knowing everything.

But Kathleen is proof that we can make it. Her boys are thriving and growing up to be such fine gentlemen. I love what I do–Capturing families and meeting great people! Especially at the Jersey Shore.

Baby Lucy | EHT Newborn Photographer

Welcome Lucy!

I have known Lucy’s momma a long time. And was beyond thrilled that Lucy would complete this family. Her older sister, Sadie, was dying to have a baby sister and big brother Bryce would be a great protector to his sister. I was overjoyed to be able to capture Lucy’s newborn session since I am so close with this family.

I prefer to do all my newborn photo sessions in the first 10 to 12 days from birth. Most photographers do this that specialize in newborn portraits. The main reason is that during this sleepy first couple of weeks, you can lull a newborn to sleep rather easier than after the two weeks. And once asleep, they tend to get into a good deep sleep that is needed to do all the fun poses that people pin on Pinterest.

Lucy’s momma by her own admission is not a big planner and when I called her a few days after she got home to see when I could come over, she was a tad overwhelmed. It was summer, so the kids were home and they all were adjusting to being a family of five. I think when I really pushed for my time window, my friend thought I was crazy. Well, she did think I was crazy because she told me so! And on the day I came over to do the pictures, I could tell my dear friend was frazzled. Her mom was there helping with the older two, her husband travels for work a lot so he was just returning and baby Lucy was up a lot the night before. But like I tell all my clients, there is no stress. I am not on a clock. We work on the baby’s schedule. I did my set up and we got some pictures. I never rush. If baby needs to eat, we stop and baby eats. I think we stopped for a lunch and let the kids run around for a bit. Then we picked it back up and captured pure magic!

And the very next day, Miss Lucy “woke” up. I mean she really woke up and did not sleep for months. She became very fussy and was put on reflux medication. Her mom and I laugh now, because she knows that if I didn’t come that day, it would not have happened!
